The week before last was a spectacular one for freedom of the media. First, Judge Willie Seriti handed down his reasons for denying Eugene de Kock an interdict against the distribution of the book White Power & the Rise and Fall of the National Party, by Christi van der Westhuizen.

At the end of August, the high court handed down judgment in one of the key media cases of the year, the privacy case brought by the Health Minister, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, against the Sunday Times.
